Teaching African History

This advanced subject knowledge course has been designed for school teachers, supplementary school educators, and home schooling parents to provide them with the knowledge and skills to deliver robust and diverse history teaching and curriculum design within their classrooms, centres and homes.
Educators will be given the knowledge and skills they need to confidently introduce or enhance African historical narratives in their curriculum design. Covering both specific continental and diasporic histories as well as approaches to African history teaching, educators will learn how to use oral traditions, digital archives, and innovative lesson design to deliver more engaging lessons.
We hope that teaching graduates of this course will go on to make major contributions to curriculum development in their schools as well as on a national and international level. For supplementary educators and home schooling parents, we hope that this course will give you the skills to develop schemes of work that respond to the specific needs of your local communities and families.
Apeike Umolu is the founder of the African History Project. She is an educator and historian with over 15 years of experience supporting students in the attainment of academic excellence. Specialising in African history, she is a passionate historian and has undertaken historical studies at the University of Oxford. She researches extensively on West African political history and is working on her first book On Black Consciousness.
On successful completion of the course, participants will be issued with a Certificate of Completion.
